The best search and rescue service is the one that’s never needed. The race takes you deep into the remote landscapes of South Africa’s Eastern Cape, yet with SARZA (Search and Rescue South Africa), together with the medical team from ER24/Mediclinic, riders are never far from help. This remarkable group of highly trained volunteers is passionate about wildness rescue, logistical route support and radio communications. Poised and ready, they’re stationed along the route, however they would still rather offer a smile, some encouragement and even a helping hand with bike maintenance than put their extensive rescue skills to work.
